Thank you for sharing your experience with Yoga Nidra. Would you tell us a little bit more about how Yoga Nidra works? I am familiar – you can probably tell because I mention yoga fairly often and I’m giving a yoga workshop on estrangement in August– but others probably don’t know what it is. Could you say a little more? I think it helps us all to know ways to center ourselves, in order to move forward in our lives. Thank you.
I was the victim of DV & raised my 2 children well, with much hardship & self-sacrifice. I kept my ex-husband's last name, so as to not create more confusion. My daughter started using a "stage name" in college. I became ill & she totally disowned me. I am in remission- haven't heard from her in 12 years. She is little Ivy Professor, married & I have a grandchild I have never met. My children were raised in a godly manner. How could I end up w/a thankless child w/no compassion or conscience?
You can call me whatever you want but who I am is defined by myself and my actions. I decide those. I decide how to feel about people treating me well or poorly and what to do next.
Yoga is an excellent remedy for not knowing yourself.
Especially Yoga nidra.
If you can experience yourself as more than bones and muscle a lot of this mental junk falls away.
We are all of our parents, no matter what we call them and our bones are made of the same stuff of our ancestors.
When you decide not to honor your parents, you are deciding to hurt yourself but this doesn't become clear until later in life.
In my first long Yoga nidra, during Yoga teacher training, we were instructed to ask ourselves "what is consciousness" when your body is asleep but your mind is awake, what are you?
Not your body.
I heard, energy, it cannot be created or destroyed, your consciousness is energy.
So much can be different for people and families when these real questions are asked, in a supported way, with guidance and a mentor.
Find a mentore, challenge yourself, you will discover who you really are when you can't escape your own self with distractions, judgements, complaints, the past or fear of the future.
